Summary: Portuguese immigrants Maria and Jose have been living in a small apartment in an exclusive district of Paris for 30 years. Maria is the caretaker for the building and José is a construction worker. When they inherit a house in Portugal, they have a chance to return to their homeland, but none of their neighbors wants them to move.
